Lego Batman

I finally watched Lego Batman over the weekend. Starring the Arrested Development uncle and nephew duo of Gob and George Michael, Lego Batman is by far my favourite iteration of Batman since the Dark Knight.

Lego Batman is surprisingly deep for a movie made to sell toys, simultaneously dealing with Batman’s family issues, city police political issues, and a look into Batman’s hilariously complex relationship with The Joker (Zach Galifinakis).

As alluded to, the cast really packs a punch, with Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Zach Galifinakis, Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes, Jenny Slate, Mariah Carey, Seth Green, Eddie Izzard, Hector Elizondo, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and even Siri featured in the movie.

The cast isn’t the only thing packing a punch, the references to previous Batman movies, other pop culture references and even a cheeky reference to Marvel’s Iron Man, make this movie perfect for fans of pop culture.

Get a bunch of bad guys together to fight bad guys? That’s a terrible idea!

Just a quick, sombre note at the end to say that I was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Adam West, TVs Batman (and Family Guy’s strange mayor Adam West). Lego Batman certainly wouldn’t be the same without the contributions of Adam West to the franchise.
