In 1974, as David Niven was introducing Elizabeth Taylor at the Academy Awards, photographer and gallery owner Robert Opel ran past in the nude.
In one of the greatest ad-libs* in history, Niven noted:
Well, ladies and gentlemen, that was almost bound to happen… But isn’t it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?
Robert Opel became a celebrity afterwards, and was hired to streak at other events. He had streaked before, protesting nudity bans at public beaches.
*There are rumours that this was a pre-planned stunt, however I am choosing to believe it was not because this line was so good.
